Southard Living Series. Our New Home

I wanted to re-introduce a little Southard Living into the blog as we build our new home.  We are working with the amazing team at JW Homes to build this dream home. As we work through the details with their design team, I thought it would be fun and another way to organize my thoughts by sharing our mood boards with y’all. All images are from my Pinterest page – please refer to that page for sources. Enjoy!

Exterior. We chose to do the very classically clean look of white with black trim. In Charleston, this is actually Charleston White and Charleston Green (reads black). The front elevation has two porches- one on the first floor and a second off an upstairs bedroom. The black detail will be the tops of windows, tops of porch railing, the foundation of the house and a semi-gloss front door.  I’m proud to say that I’ll be adding some palm trees to my front lawn in the future. Nothing makes me happier.

Entry. I wanted to carry the black and white scheme into the interior of the house when you first step in. With the front door open, there will be a synchronicity to the house. The entry way will have a chair railing- above will be white, below black. I’ve considered doing the top in wallpaper and it’s something I’m still mulling over. Planning to add a punch of color with a piece of art from Lindsay Cowles… oh how I love her stuff.

Study/Library. I am drawn to this one image of Monique Lhullier’s home office (first image below). Planning on doing a dark wall, using our white lacquer parsons desk, a hide rug, upholstered chair behind the desk and two chairs similar to the image below or two ghost chairs. I’m on the hunt for brass/gold colored skinny bookshelves or some that I can spray paint.  Send ideas!

Powder Room. I love powder rooms. I have loved this image from Lily Bunn Weeks for so long using the Tanzania wallpaper. I’d love to do something animal print that hasn’t been published to death though. Some ideas below. I’m also loving Farrow and Ball’s Ocelot and Osborne and Little’s Bagatelle Spot. Hmm…

Kitchen. This was actually the first place that Bo and I started when talking all things design. This image from Urban Electric Company..showcasing their wonderful light fixtures, however I plan to use Visual Comfort’s Hicks pendant lights instead over the island. Our upper cabinets will be painted white with nickel pulls. The backsplash is a grey glass subway tile and the counter tops are white with grey honed Carrerra marble. The island has the same marble top with black painted cabinets underneath and French bistro stools. Dream kitchen.

Living Room. We have a completely open floor plan. The kitchen, breakfast nook, living and dining room are all one open space with an archway separating the dining room.

Still a work in progress my friends. Here are the pieces we’re considering: grey velvet Chesterfield sofa, two Hickory Chair Monroe Chairs, some unique coffee table, Madeline Weinrib rug and some of these lamps. Window treatments are the next thing up to decide. There are a lot of windows. I’m not clear yet what I’ll do yet… The art will again be a great source for color.
